Lack of sleep has never done anyone any good, and there are times when children find it difficult to fall asleep.

This, in turn, can make the entire process stressful. Whilst there are many reasons why children may find it hard to get to sleep, one of the key ways to develop a healthy sleep routine is to create a gentle unwinding period prior to bed. Ensure that your child has no stimulating foods or drinks at least 1 hour before bed - in an ideal world not too much TV either! Introduce some soothing steps such as a warm bath and a story - this downtime is invaluable.

In combination with this we suggest creating a dream-like haven in their bedroom. About 15 minutes before bedtime, sprinkle 'Stars' around the room, on the duvet (but not close to the face) or place a few drops under the pillow on a hanky or in a ceramic lamp ring. Close the door and when you re-enter tell your child that the magic fragrance will help them "sleep right through the night". The oils we have picked are soporific as well as de-stressing and combine to work wonders on all little night owls.
